Have you ever been watching a commercial and wondered "How do I know that voice?" Don't worry, I have too, and this past weekend I finally found an answer.
I was watching an M&M commercial and my friend dropped some serious trivia on me-the voice of the red M&M is the same voice of Philip J. Fry in Futurama! The man behind the characters is Billy West, a famous voice actor whose other roles include: Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in "Space Jam", Stimpy from "Ren and Stimpy" and Doug Funnie and Roger Klotz on "Doug". Who would have thought that Quailman would be one and the same as a talking red candy piece?
Armed with this knowledge, I looked up some more famous candy voices. The yellow M&M, to my surprise, is voiced by J.K. Simmons from my beloved "Law & Order" (Regular, CI, and SVU). He was also Juno's dad in "Juno" and has been in all of the "Spiderman" movies as Peter Parker's newspaper boss, J. Jonah Jameson.
The lovely green M&M shares a voice with Penny from "Inspector Gadget", Susie on "The Rugrats" and Elmyra Duff from "Tiny Toon Adventures" and "Pinky and the Brain" thanks to Cree Summers.
Rumors are circulating that the newest M&M to the cast, Orange Pretzel M&M, is done by Max Casella (the original Timon from "The Lion King" on Broadway) but so far I haven't gotten confirmation.
Who knew the M&Ms commercial had so much star power behind it! Stay tuned for Part 2, with more fun candy commercial facts.
