San Antonio, TX — C-store operator CST Brands, Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the convenience assets, franchisor rights and associated trademarks of Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes in New York. The deal is expected to close early during this fiscal year’s final quarter.
With 77 corporate and franchise locations in central New York, CST Brands reports the deal will provide additional areas of growth for its new-to-industry stores adjacent to its Canadian networks. Currently, the acquiring firm operates 1,900 locations throughout the southwest U.S. and eastern Canada.
Kim Bowers, chairman and CEO of CST Brands, says: “Our stores across the U.S. and Canada share a lot in common with Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes, making this a great match culturally and a prime opportunity for CST Brands to enter into new markets.”
The acquisition process was started a year ago by Nice N Easy’s founder, the late John MacDougall, according to President and CEO Fran Duskiewicz, adding MacDougall had very specific provisions about the sale to protect the New York chain’s name, image and employees.
“Company culture is everything to us and we’ve made a decision that will allow that culture to continue and grow with a group with whom we share many business philosophies,” Duskiewicz adds.
