Karlshamn, Sweden — AAK AB is purchasing MaasRefinery B.V., a specialist in toll refining of vegetable oils and fats, as the acquiring firm reports it is seeking to increase capacity, support existing production facilities and enable continued growth.
MaasRefinery is located next to a deep-sea terminal in Rotterdam and has capacity of approximately 40,000 metric tons with room for expansion, AAK reports. Established in 2009, the refiner has the latest technology and processes to maximize energy and efficiency, and minimize oil loss. Further, the company is certified according to FSSC 22000 and fulfills requirements for skal, kosher, RPO and GMP+.
“We have seen strong growth within our European business during the past years and this investment will give us additional capacity and secure support for continued growth,” says Johan Westman, AAK president and CEO.
The deal is subject to approval by local authorities and is expected to close in the first quarter of this year.
