Batavia, IL — Doubling down on its aggressive growth strategy, Aldi Inc. is investing an additional $3.4 billion to increase its U.S. store count, with the goal of operating 2,500 locations nationwide by 2022.

Overall, the retailer is investing $5 billion in new and remodeled U.S. stores. Once complete Aldi will become the third largest grocery outlet in the country, the retailer reports, noting an estimated 25,000 jobs will be established as a result of this growth.

“We pioneered a grocery model built around values, convenience, quality and selection, and now Aldi is one of America’s favorite and fastest growing retailers,” says CEO Jason Hart. “We’re growing at a time when other retailers are struggling. We are giving our customers what they want, which is more organic produce, antibiotic-free meats and fresh, healthier options across the store, all at unmatched prices up to 50 percent lower than traditional grocery stores.”
