Chicago — The first ever Ruby Award for Supplier Innovation was presented yesterday morning to Barry Callebaut A.G. USA, LLC for its Ruby chocolate.
In presenting the award, NCA President & CEO John Downs explained that the company’s product was the inspiration for the award honoring break-through developments that advance confectionery manufacturing.
“We realized that throughout this country — and all around the world — our supplier community is creating products that enhance confectionery manufacturing. New packaging concepts, mechanical inventions, ingredient and flavor technology all contribute to what makes our category fun and unique,” Downs told the assembled crowd.
He added that as the innovation that inspired the honor, the Association is naming the award for the product.
In accepting the award, Barry Callebaut Americas’ Jerry Hagedorn, executive vice-president of business development, said: “Thank you to the NCA for creating this new category of recognition, highlighting the role ingredient suppliers can play in bringing innovation to the confectionery and snack industries.”
Peter Boone, Barry Callebaut CEO & president Americas, tells Candy & Snack TODAY: “It is an honor that this inaugural supplier innovation award recognizes the exciting opportunity presented by ruby chocolate. It is expected that ruby chocolate will be showcased in many new product applications in confectionery, snacking, and beyond.”
