Washington — During the United Fresh Produce Association’s Washington Conference, NCA President and CEO John Downs shared insights on strategic decision making, leadership and unconventional partnerships during the Venture Beyond the Fresh Produce Aisle session on September 16.
“Companies, like trade associations, are decisions factories. You have to make the right strategic bets to win,” he said. “As the leader of a trade association, you have to listen to your member companies, learn from your member companies, and lead with your member companies.”
The session also touched on the importance of unity and persistence of messaging to persuade decision-makers on Capitol Hill.
In addition to presenting a united front, Downs noted it is important to work with key critics and detractors. “Predicting key disruptions and trends is crucial to being successful as an industry,” he said.
