Rockville, MD — Food gifting occasions and sales have sustained growth during the past year, with sales estimated to have increased 4 percent, according to Packaged Facts.

Winter holidays remained the most popular time frame, with 54 percent of consumers that have purchased food as a gift doing so during the season, according to the research company. Birthdays, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day are also popular holidays for giving food gifts.

Additionally, everyday gifting occasions are increasing, with 23 percent of shoppers that bought food gifts reporting they did so as a way to say thank you, Packaged Facts relays.

The research company notes the market remains steady because of traditions of giving food gifts tied to major holidays, while manufacturers have increased attention beyond seasonal periods to reach new consumers.
