Hebron, KY — Dr. Allen Ross, father of Galerie CEO Richard Ross and co-founder of the company, passed away on November 11. He was 87.
According to his son: “He watched us go from the Jelly Bean factory in 1976 to Galerie Au Chocolate in 1981, and then watched Galerie take off in 1989. He was never more proud of his involvement! He worked at Galerie for over 18 years with my mom when he retired from dentistry. He was so proud to be part of starting the company and helping watch over it. Galerie would not be here today without his support.”
Dr. Ross loved working at Galerie and talked often about all the friends he made over the years, his son adds. “He was very proud that he helped start the company and to see so many people grow and do so well!”
He received his B.A. and D.D.S. from The Ohio State University and was a Captain in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Army. He opened his 35-year dental practice in Trotwood, OH, in 1961. In retirement, he took and taught classes at The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Dayton.
He was a member of the Dayton Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, Ohio Dental Association, American Dental Association, and Alpha Omega dental fraternity, as well as the Temple Israel in Dayton.
Dr. Ross is survived by his wife of 63 years Helen, and by three sons, David (Deborah), Richard, and Marc, four grandchildren, Rachel (Harry) Wolff, Cameron (Scott) Fussey, Gabriel, and Carter Ross, and one great-grandson, Miles Wolff.
Services will be held Friday, November 16 at 2 p.m. at Temple Israel, 130 Riverside Drive, Dayton. Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery. The family notes memorial contributions may be made to Temple Israel, Hospice of Dayton, or a charity of your choice. C&ST
