Pittsburgh — Forrester Research reports waiting in checkout lines as the top complaint among U.S. grocery shoppers, and Giant Eagle, Inc. is partnering with Grabango Co., a leading checkout-free technology provider, to remediate those shopping queue grievances, the retailer reports.
Grabango’s technology allows shoppers to enter the store, immediately start shopping as they normally would without any hurdles such as turnstiles or memberships while the advanced checkout-free systems automatically keep a running total of selected items, the technology provider reports.
The system does not use facial recognition technology, but rather computer vision and machine learning to track shopped items, according to the company.
“Giant Eagle is committed to advancing technologies that create an improved, stress-free shopping experience for our customers while still protecting their privacy,” says Dan Donovan, director of corporate communications. “In Grabango, we have found a partner that shares our commitment and can help us bring this enhanced experience to life.”
