Boca Raton, FL — Stephanie Panzetta, of Weis Markets, Inc., and Cindy Maly, of Casey’s General Stores, accepted their 2019 Confectionery Leadership Awards in front a capacity crowd of candymakers, brokers, retailers and distributors at the State of the Industry Conference.

The awards are given to celebrate the recipients’ contributions to the industry through their category management best practices, effective business collaboration, innovative in-store merchandising and solid category performance.

NCA Chairman Michael Rosenberg, president and CEO of Promotion In Motion Cos., Inc., presented Confectionery Category Manager Panzetta her award, detailing her unique rise from Weis’ graphic design department to merchandising.

“To say that Stephanie’s transition to merchandising has been a success would be an understatement. She has harnessed her creative background to develop a shoppable aisle for Weis’ customers over the last few years. Everything is categorized neatly and in a way that is aesthetically pleasing,” Rosenberg said.

Graciously and characteristically brief, Panzetta accepted her award with an abundance of gratitude.

“Thanks to all of you who were kind enough to think of me for this award and I look forward to our future partnerships and growing our businesses together,” she told the conference crowd.

Before bestowing Maly with her award, NCA Vice-Chairman Kirk Vashaw, CEO and chairman of Spangler Candy Co., gave a brief history of her career, noting the “dance”she must perform because of the size constraints at Casey’s General Stores. He went on to note that Maly was his first sales call in the industry 15 years ago.

“Her ability to balance the traditional wants of her Midwest customer base with what she knows will be a hit is a dance Cindy has been performing flawlessly throughout her career,” Vashaw said. “She has the uncanny ability to jump on board new items at precisely the right time. With Casey’s model of self-distribution, she’s able to get new items out quickly, ensuring her customers have access to the latest and greatest our industry is producing.”

Upon accepting her award, Maly thanked the nominating committee and her colleagues in attendance.

“While I can’t carry all of your products in our stores, I want you to know I love all confectionery products and I love this great industry,” she said.
