Sonoma, CA — Meb Keflezighi, an ambassador member of The Hershey Co.’s Team Krave, has qualified for the marathon trials at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games held from August 5 – 21 in Re de Janerio, Brazil.
Team Krave is a collective of Hershey’s Krave brand employees and ambassador athletes representing the jerky product. The team as well as Hershey’s official partnership with the U.S. Olympic Committee and sponsorship of Team USA, will support Keflezighi on his journey to the games, according to Hershey.
With a decorated history in the sport having won the New York City Marathon in 2009, the Boston Marathon in 2014, medaled in silver at the 2004 Olympic Marathon in Athens and holding the record for the U.S. marathon masters, Keflezighi will be the oldest American male to ever qualify for the trials at the age of 40.
“Meb has been a member of Team Krave for more than three years. We are honored to be a part of his journey and hope to continue to share Meb’s inspiring story with the world as we cheer him to Olympic Games victory,” says Rusti Porter, vice-president of marketing at Krave. “Meb’s loving persona, determination, light, and gratitude, are just a few of the reasons we feel passionately about connecting our consumers with such a phenomenal role model.”
Keflezighi’s Team Krave profile notes that his favorite flavor of the meat snack is sweet chipotle and that he eats it after a race alongside a salad and enjoys it while traveling for a quick snack when he’s not eating fruit.
“I had nothing to lose in the race today. I put my all on the line for one last chance to compete at the Olympics with my daughters and family by my side. I am so eager to take the Road to Rio and represent the country that I love,” Keflezighi says. “As I continue with my training, I am delighted knowing that my go-to protein snack, Krave will be alongside for the ride.”
