Coca-Cola’s Walter To Lead Mondelez NA; Oswalt, Eckard Take On New Roles


Deerfield, IL — Glen Walter is joining Mondelez International, Inc. in November as executive vice-president and president, North America, responsible for leading the company’s $7 billion U.S. and Canadian businesses. In addition, Valerie Oswalt, currently president of North American sales, becomes president of North American confectionery, while Matthew Eckard takes over the position of president of North American sales.

Walter joins Mondelez from the Coca-Cola Co., where since 2014 he has served as CEO of Coca-Cola Industries China. Walter also served as president and COO for Coca-Cola in North America, responsible for 70,000 employees and annual revenues of $22 billion. Prior to his time at Coca-Cola, he spent time at InBevUSA in the role of president, as well as various general management and M&A roles within the company and Interbrew.

Walter succeeds Tim Cofer, who stepped into the North American leadership role on an interim basis in April. Cofer will return full time to his responsibilities as chief growth officer.

Oswalt, Eckard Take On New Roles

Oswalt will transition from her current position by year-end, where she had responsibility for the U.S. sales and Canadian commercial selling organizations, including all U.S. sales direct-store-delivery retail and customer headquarter activities.

Since joining the company in 1996 as a sales finance analyst, Oswalt has progressed through a broad range of cross-functional roles. During her tenure as Walmart Customer VP of Beverage and Grocery, she and her team delivered successive revenue and share growth for the business and were named Walmart’s “Supplier of the Year.”

In his new position, Eckard will lead all direct-store-delivery, retail and customer headquarter activities for the company, based in the company’s East Hanover, NJ office. He joined Mondelez in 1992 and has held a range of sales roles, spanning in-field positions as well as regional headquarter and international assignments. Since 2015, he served as vice-president, sales, West area.

Prior to assuming that role, Eckard spent three years as U.S. customer VP for sales strategy & operations. Earlier in his career, he was customer business executive for Walmart, sales regional VP for the Northeastern U.S. and director of biscuit sales planning. CST
